[CLOSED] cdn.fastclick.net

Postby cmkubert » Mon, 02 Jul 2012, 02:35

What is cdn.fastclick.net?

How do I stop the pop-ups (requesting download permission)?

How come it only pop-ups when I'm using IE (doesn't show up in chrome)?

It wants me to download this file and I always deny the download so to the best of my knowlodge it is not on my computer. It is just annoying - the constant pop-up requests to download.

Thanks,
Christine

Can you post a screenshot of the popup?

Here is the screen shot you requested. I was in my mail "sent" folder and was moving emails to their respective folders or deleting mail that wasn't necessary to keep. I had just marked and moved 3 emails into a folder when this popped up. There really is no "trigger" to this request pop-up, it comes whenever - doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason. As you can see it looks like a javascript file that is wanting a download - I have not ever opened or saved this I just keep hitting cancel.

It seems that you may have installed an application which is requesting this download
Run an scan with the tool Panda ActiveScan Cleaner you can find in the Disinfection tools subforum

In order to avoid cdn.fastclick.net try downloading anything you can add it to the restricted sites in Internet Explorer:
Open IE
Go to tools -- Internet Options
Go to the Security tab and select Restricted sites
Click the Sites button
Add http://cdn.fastclick.net to the list

You can also block it by adding a new line to the hosts file
Open c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with notepad
Add the following line at the end of the file:
Code: Select all
127.0.0.1   cdn.fastclick.net

Save the changes

Thank you so very much ;) I will do what you have advised. Gezzz I never thought about the restricted listing in IE, I knew that it was there, it just never dawned on me until you mentioned it  duhh  I appreciate the info on how to block it with adding a line to the host file - marvelous.

Great advise, thank you so much - if you don't hear back from me you can consider this subject closed.
