I heard about Panda being quite good, so I just installed it on my parents pc (Win 7). It found a few things, so that was good. I then proceeded to run a full scan, but since hibernate is enabled automatic on this pc, it hibernated after 15 minutes while still scanning. When resumed the scan would not continue. I closed the scan, restarted the PC and now NO EXE can be opened. If I click a .exe file, it comes up with the windows dialog of: what kind of app do you want to use to open this? With an empty list. All shortcuts on the taskbar and in the desktop are white, can't be opened.
It seems that Panda or somehow detected a vital windows file and quarantined that one. (Where can I find these?) Or something else??
Panda won't start, just as all other programs except explorer.exe (not if I try to start it again from commandline). This whole windows install looks hosed now!!
Please tell me how to fix this.

Download the attached recover exe.zip file and extract it to your desktop (the password to extract it is panda)
Double click the extracted recover exe.reg and confirm that you want to import the information to the registry when you are asked
Reboot the PC and check if the problem is corrected

I tried this solution, but when extracting to the desktop a WinRAR message says not enough memory. The memory on the computer is 2tb. running windows 8. please help, I cannot run anything on this computer.

Could you try extracting it from safe mode or in a diferent PC?

so I tried to do it in safe mode and gave the same reply, so I extracted on another pc and when I use the file on the affected pc it asks how I want to open this type of file (.reg)
