Two Panda Event ID crashes, 1 minute apart

Post by joeyT »

Starting August 1, Panda has started crashing.

At first crashes were once a day. Now the crashes are up to 4 times a day and counting.
I can not see an obvious pattern or reason for the crashes.

There are always two crashes 1 minute apart, which is weird.

Event ID 1000 "Faulting application PSANHost.exe"
Then a minute later
Event ID 7031 "The Panda Protection Service service terminated unexpectedly"

But when I check the Task Manager, PSANHost.exe is still running.
So it appears Panda is automatically restarting itself after it crashes.

I am running Vista.

I posted the PSANHost crashes a couple of months ago, no response or fix from Panda at all. In fact, Panda seems to not respond to any of the "free" user posts here. I'm also on Vista, 64 bit.
My PSANHost will crash every hour on the hour (about 2 minutes after the hour) if I clear the error. Seems related to something checking on the Internet, such as updates or "cloud" stuff... The service seems to restart every time. However, I leave the crash window minimized on the task bar, and that prevents further notifications (but not the crashes).
The error seems related to a DEP (Data Execution Prevention) trap where Windows faults the program for trying to run code in a "data" only area. This is a common virus approach. You can turn this DEP off for specific programs, but one has to ask why Panada does this in the first place.
Solution seems to be to drop Panda and find some other AV product, based on Panda's responses here...

Jorge Torre in the Panda Tech Support dept has fixed other Free problems.

I don't visit here much, but it appears Jorge and/or Panda may not deal with one-off issues like mine, with the Free program. Probably requires a ground swelling of complaints before they take the initiative to fix a program bug.

Update since Aug 6, when I first started this thread.

Aug 7 - Four PSANHost.exe crashes 9:42am, 10:18am, 2:18pm, 4:18pm
Aug 8 - Four PSANHost.exe crashes 3:18am, 3:18pm, 4:18pm, 9:18pm
Aug 9 - Four PSANHost.exe crashes 1:18am, 2:18pm, 6:18pm 8:04pm

I rarely shut down my computer and normally leave it on 24/7, so there is rarely system down time.

Also, the PSANHost.exe crashes when the computer is idle and no programs are running.
One minute after each of these PSANHost.exe crashes the "Panda Protection Service service terminated unexpectedly" crashes.

How often does Panda check for updates? 4 times a day?
Could these crashes be caused by updates?
Is there a log of the date/time Panda looks for updates?

Update.

Problem fixed.

I reinstalled Panda Free and the errors/crashes stopped.

My current version of Panda was 18.01.

I downloaded and installed the latest version 18.03.

Hi joeyT

Thanks for your post. I've been suffering similar PSANHost.exe crashes, always occurring at around 20 minutes past the hour:

04/08/17 12:18:48
07/08/17 20:17:03
08/08/17 18:20:21
08/08/17 22:23:39
09/08/17 17:19:39
12/08/17 16:20:54
12/08/17 22:20:50
14/08/17 13:19:21

I've followed your suggestion, and uninstalled 18.01.00, then installed 18.03.00. I'll post again if I find this hasn't fixed the problem.

As another poster mentioned on another thread, it's a great shame that change logs don't appear to be available. If they were, then we might be able to make some sort of judgement as to what was going on.

Oh dear, PSANHost.exe crashed at shutdown, about 30 minutes after I'd installed 18.03.00. That's not an encouraging sign.
