Hi,

in our region, managing clients internet bandwidth is one of the most important network admin needs. they need UTM which help them to control bandwidth, traffic volume, time and.. of the internet.

AFAIK, these features are only implemented in hotspot, so I want to move customer LAN from green to blue and need you to tell me which features may be lost or which difficulty may occur? is it practical?

thanks,

Hi Bjb,

The Blue zone, by definition, is the zone for the temporal mostly not trusted users whose basically will be connected to your network a day or two in order to perform a specific task. It can be used to handle the Wifi connections made by the users but knowing that the amount of traffic that the wifi devices will never be as huge as the the green zone.

In order to control traffic in the green zone:

- Create access policies that are working during the time frames you are interested in.

- If you use the proxy http in not transparent mode, you can do the filtering based on user and time frame.

- Use the Traffic Monitoring and the Logs and reports --> Proxy --> Http reports in ordet to know which is the IP that has consumed more amount of bandwidth and where its been.

HI,

thanks for your support,

actually by asking this, I want to know what difficulties may occur if connect LAN to Blue zone instead of green zone. this organization just have a LAN and WAN, there are no untrusted users nor wifi users. but they indeed need accounting for 1000 users they have. I want to leave green zone without any user and connect them directly to blue zone, they don't need green zone features. All they need is malleable accounting device.

is there any dark side if I do this? again I say that loosing green features in not important in this case.

regard,

Hi Bjb,

There is no technical issue that prevents you from doing what you want to do but We believe that if the customer only has a LAN zone and a WAN zone, its easier to setup the eGD in router mode with only two zones.

If the end customer has 1000 users, bear in mind to check the size of the machine you are going to install in order to avoid browsing blockages.
