PS Campaign.exe nuisance pop-up

Post by ranchhand »

Suddenly Zone Alarm is notifying me of "PS Campaign.exe" attempting to run. I click "Deny", and 5 minutes later it appears again. This thing pops up literally every 5 minutes.
I have perused the archived topics on this subject, and evidently Panda is not going to stop this, I hope I am wrong. Must be a new marketing ploy.
I have:
> Removed the entire folder it is located in, along with RunActionAsUser.exe, AND removed all registry entries for those files. It returned.
> Renamed PSCampaign.exe to PSCampaigh.OLD, and also .ex_ as recommended by one archived post. Nothing helped.
Obviously Panda is re-loading this pest on my hard drive, despite the fact I don't want it.
So Panda.....is there any way to stop this from attempting to load?

You must be referring to that popup that says something about Hours Minutes Seconds till something or other happens. Sometimes it behaves and is tolerable ... doesn't pop up too often. Other times ... Wooooooo! MAN! It gets out of control and is appearing more than your typical virus-generated popups!!! :o

I mean, I know this is the FREE version of this Panda antivirus and SOME ads will come with the territory, but SHEESH! There IS a point of TOO MANY instances of ANY ad, including this one. It gets to the point of being obtrusive.

Have you turned off 'News' in Settings? That should stop the pop-ups.

I don't know if you meant to turn off BOTH settings in that "News" category, but I decided to first try just turning off the 1st one ... the "Show Panda news" setting. If the ad popups persist, then I'll turn off the "Show relevant security news" setting as well.

Major thanks for that bit of info, Askalick.

If not, rename the pscampaign.exe to pscampaign.ex_

That also should sort the issue

Askalick's suggestion seems to have done the trick. I have not encountered the popup again. 8-)
