[SOLVED] Failure to install on XP laptop today

Post by Askalick » Sun, 21 Aug 2016, 17:31

As I had no access to the internet today I used the offline installer that I had previously downloaded last weekend for a friends new Windows 10 laptop. That was successful, but today another friend needed antivirus on a Windows XP SP3 laptop.

I removed Microsoft Security Essentials and did a restart, checked there was no other security software present, then tried to install Panda Free Antivirus. It extracted, I declined the offer of Yahoo, then received an error message with an error log which I have attached.

Please would you explain what has gone wrong and what I should do next so that Panda can be installed on this laptop.

Thank you.

It seems that the OS is not able to validate the digital signatures
You will need to manually update the root certificates
To do so, download and run rootsupd.exe and try installing again

Thanks for this response. I downloaded via another computer and tried to run it. Nothing appeared to happen, so I right-clicked to Run as Administrator even though there is only one account on this laptop. But an error message said 'You do not have administrative permission...
Should I have seen any activity when this was run?

I was not sure what to do next, but I connected to the internet and tried the online Panda installer, on the off-chance it might work. It did! The laptop now has Panda version 17

So I don't know why, but the problem is now sorted.

Running rootsupd.exe is very fast and doesn't inform about its completion, don't ask why but Microsoft programmed it like that

So it was properly applied
