[CLOSED] Issue with Panda Safe Web on Chrome

Post by partha »

Hi everyone,

My name is Partha and I am new to this forum. I think there is an issue with Panda Safe Web and therefore thought of posting this topic

I installed the Panda Safe Web utility today and then navigated to Google Chrome's settings, to change the default search engine

There under "Search", I saw that Panda Safe Web was set as the default search engine but as I've highlighted in red below, that drop-down was grayed out and ideally, it shouldn't

I clicked on "Manage search engines..." right next to the drop-down button but there too, it didn't let me change the default search engine as you can see below

It is a new feature that doesn't allow to change the search engine unless you disable the extension
This is so for security reasons so that it can't be changed unintentionally as some malware does

I don't think any security measure should come at the cost of compromising features of a software, like the inbuilt feature of a browser to let users change the default search engine

Features like that cannot be compromised just in the name of security

If you can easily change the search engine without it being locked, so can malware. I don't see a problem.
